"Is this all Thameslink or Siemens' fault — aren't they paying for it?"
AnsweredNo. The £7.97m budget is a reallocation within the Crawley Growth Programme — a joint West Sussex County Council and Crawley Borough Council capital partnership — plus Community Infrastructure Levy contributions. Govia Thameslink Railway and Network Rail are delivery partners providing cooperation and in-kind staff time, since some of the works sit on railway land, but the money itself comes from the local authority partners. Siemens' nearby depot is a separate, older project with no funding connection to this scheme. See the record for the full funding breakdown.
"Why can't they just keep the right turn as well as doing everything else?"
AnsweredThe council's own Planning Committee minutes record the answer plainly: "it would not have been possible to provide the level of improvement to the forecourt had [the right turn] been retained." In other words, it's a design and budget trade-off within the scheme as scoped, not something ruled out as physically impossible at any cost. Two councillors said much the same in 2020, in less formal language — see the record.
"Will there be anywhere to get dropped off or picked up on the east side once it's built?"
AnsweredNot formally, no. A small vehicle drop-off at the new Station Hill entrance was proposed in 2015 and dropped from the scheme by 2019 on cost and traffic-flow grounds. What's being built there is pedestrian, cycle and bus access only. Realistically, this site expects the entrance will end up being used informally for drop-offs anyway, without any kerb space or safety provision built in for it — that's a prediction, not a confirmed fact, and is marked as such wherever it appears.
"Has anyone actually checked how long the diversion via the roundabouts takes at rush hour?"
Partially answeredThe council's own 2019 estimate was 5–6 minutes added in peak conditions. This site is independently timing and costing real journeys on both routes at different times of day to test that figure against practice — results will be published here once complete, rather than relying on the council's estimate alone or ours without evidence behind it.
"Is the bus stop by the station being moved or kept?"
PendingThe stop doesn't appear on the current published redevelopment plan. A councillor has said they're "sure" it will be moved; the council itself hasn't confirmed this yet, and an officer request on the point is still awaiting reply. This will be updated the moment there's a real answer.
